What to Expect
Visiting a new church for the first time can be challenging. Below is information that we hope will help you feel more comfortable.
-
Flossmoor Community Church is an inclusive community of faith, called to embody God’s love through worship, study, giving, and service. We celebrate diversity and believe that all people are included in God’s unconditional love and grace.
-
When you visit, we hope you’ll stop at our Check-in Desk and identify yourself as a visitor. We have Connect Cards for visitors that will allow us to follow up with you following worship.
-
Join us in our Gathering Space just outside the Sanctuary after worship for coffee and fellowship.
-
We won’t ask you to stand during worship or be the only one wearing a name badge. We recognize that many visitors appreciate anonymity. We also will not push you to become a member of Flossmoor Community Church, although we hope you will consider becoming a part of our church family if our church meets your spiritual needs through worship and programs.

How do I get there? Where do I park?
Flossmoor Community Church is located at 2218 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor, IL. Parking is available in the lot of the adjacent Community House and along the residential streets surrounding the building.
Here is a link to more specific information on our location
Handicapped parking and courtesy spaces for those who have a need for closer parking are available along Travers, in our main parking lot, and in the lot behind the church (enter from Travers Lane.) Many map programs do not place this address correctly, so we suggest you search for the intersection of Carroll Pkwy & Hutchison Road.
What happens during Sunday worship?
As you enter the church you may be welcomed by one of our FCC Hosts at our Welcome Desk and Information Center who can provide you with more information about the church. Our ushers will give you a worship bulletin to guide you through the service. There is also a check-in desk in our Narthex, just outside of the Sanctuary.
The bulletin will have the words to anything spoken aloud by the congregation, including responsive readings and prayers. Hymnals and Bibles are available in the pews or words to hymns will be printed in the bulletin or on overhead screens. Your bulletin will also indicate when the congregation stands.
At Flossmoor Community Church, worship is what we do for God, and the music ministers in our faith community strive to give God our very best. Our musicians have a wide variety of gifts and training and we know that God loves and wants to hear from each and every one. Our worship reflects that variety and those gifts. The music is carefully chosen to enhance the full worship experience and may vary in style from week to week.
Communion is offered every first Sunday of the month during worship. Our communion table is open to everyone — people of all faith backgrounds, baptized or not, confessed or not, sure or not. All are welcome at the table. We typically invite people forward to receive communion, and we offer gluten-free bread options.
Children are called to the front steps by our worship leaders for a brief time with the Pastor typically between 15-20 minutes after the start of worship. They lead us in our Passing the Peace liturgy and then leave for Children's Worship.
In all of our worship services we recite an offering prayer and invite those in attendence to contribute their pledges and offerings in the Offering Boxes located just outside the Sanctuary. We welcome gifts no matter the amount, encouraging our congregation to give with appreciation for the many gifts we have been given. We are also very mission-oriented and frequently have opportunities to support one of our important missions.
What Sunday opportunities do you offer for children and youth?
Flossmoor Community Church is well-known for their ministries and programs for children and youth. All are welcome and valued at FCC. We currently do not offer childcare for infants, but hope to provide that service once we have more young children in our congregation. Most parents of infants bring their children to worship, and we offer special gliding rocking chairs in the back corners of the Sanctuary, reserved for parents of young children.
We welcome young children in worship. However, if you feel you need to leave because of a fussy child, you can hear the worship service in the Bell Chapel which is out the back doors of the Sanctuary and through the Gathering Space.
Children's Worship is held from approximately 10:20 am - 11:15 am on the second floor. Children ages 3 through fifth grade begin in worship and are dismissed to Children's Worship during the passing of the peace. For more information regarding our Children's Ministry, please click HERE.
Youth groups for 7th grade through 12th grade gather from 11:30 - 12:30 pm. Groups and locations are:
• 7th & 8th grade/Tribes: 2nd Floor at the end of the Hall in Room 10..
• 9th grade through 12th grade/Quest: 2nd Floor near top of middle staircase in Room 23.

What should I wear?
Some people like to dress up for church, others dress more casually and all of us respect each other and our shared commitment to worship together. Please wear whatever you are comfortable wearing.
Should I bring a Bible?
You are welcome to bring your Bible if you wish. Anything read by the congregation will be printed in the worship bulletin. Our ministers at Flossmoor Community Church often reference the New Revised Standard Version or Common English Bible. We also provide Bibles in our pews.
How long does worship last?
Our Sunday morning worship service lasts between 60 - 80 minutes.
Is there a coffee hour or fellowship time after church?
Before and after worship we offer fellowship and coffee in the Gathering Space. We invite you to stick around for awhile and meet others. Stop by the Welcome Center to introduce yourself. There you will find information about various programs and upcoming events.
Is the church handicap accessible?
Yes. A handicap ramp is available at our front entrance (on Hutchison). Parking in the rear parking lot (off of Travers) will bring you close to our elevator and access to all levels of the church, except the Balcony and Tower Room.
How can I get more information?
Feel free to contact us anytime by email or at 708-798-2800. We can even arrange to have someone meet you before or after worship and/or sit with you on your first visit.
