LABYRINTH
Here at Flossmoor Community Church we are fortunate to have two labyrinths, one outdoor and one portable for indoor use. The outdoor contemporary labyrinth, created by church member Tyler Thompson, provides opportunity for individual as well as group experience. The labyrinth is located in McAfee Garden behind the church building. A beautiful waterfall enhances the attractive, landscaped garden in all seasons. The outdoor labyrinth is almost always open for self-guided labyrinth walks. Scriptures for meditation, paper and colored pencils for drawing, and pens and paper for journaling are located in a wooden box placed at the entrance. The materials are provided to inspire individuals as their hearts and minds open to prayer, reflection, and insight.
The labyrinths at FCC are sacred places set aside for the journey as an opportunity to look within, pray, reflect, negotiate new behavior, and explore one’s relationship with the Divine as one walks the winding paths.
The outdoor labyrinth and McAfee Garden were dedicated on May 3, 2009. The following prayer was given at this Service of Dedication:
“God of life’s journey, we dedicate the labyrinth as a means of our growth in faith, that as we prayerfully walk its winding path we might learn to know and love you with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind and with all our strength, and learn to trust you with the unfolding of our lives.”
